The Consortium PNRA S.c.r.l. for the exploitation of the Italian Antarctic Program, is inviting contributions for papers and posters for the 21st Polar Libraries Colloquy
Deadline for submission of abstracts is 28th February 2006.
Conference themeBuilding network in the world of information has become nowaday a usual way of working and thinking. The need to share resources and the development of technological tools moves more and more towards cooperation. Features of the information on the 21st century (huge production, increasing costs of purchase and management, difficulties in accessing non conventional channels) make impossible for a single library to satisfy all the users requirements. On the other hand this is also the age of the development of information technologies that enable building systems for management, preservation and dissemination with higher and higher quality and quantity. From these reasons library networks are arising: collective catalogues, bibliographic databases, networks for document delivery and interlibrary loan, consortia for acquisition and management of the electronic resources, open archives, networks for cooperation in the reference service, specialized gateways, and so on. Colloquy organizers hope that the 21st PLC will be a chance of sharing experiences and building new polar networks. TopicsTopics of particolar relevance would include:
Instructions for the authorsContributions must be submitted as abstracts (about 150 words) with an official title. Contributions must include the following information: author's name, institution, mailing address, phone number, e-mail. Authors will be informed about acceptance of their contributions by 1 March 2006. Contributions must be in English. Accepted papers must be sent to the Organizing Committee in DOC format before 15 April 2006. Presentations in Power Point shall be provided by 21 April in order to be made avilable on the meeting web site. Papers will be published both in print and electronically in the meeting proceedings.
